ABOUT ANITA

Section Styles full-width

I’m a journalist who investigates how beauty culture is controlling our lives, and has done for centuries. I explore the ugly truth about our beauty standards, and how pretty privilege can shape our entire lives. And I’m always looking for ways we can maintain autonomy over our looks, because the beauty industry behemoth doesn’t always have our best interests at heart…

I’m a multi award winning journalist, speaker, and the author of UGLY: Giving Us Back Our Beauty Standards published by Blink (Bonnier). This part-memoir, part cultural and historical commentary was first published in hardback in 2023, and was serialised by The Guardian and Independent, featured on BBC Woman’s Hour, and Channel 4 Steph’s Packed Lunch. UGLY was was named a book to watch by Porter, Stylist and Glamour.
